Project Day 1 – Reality Remixed

After preparing for this upcoming week of all-day-workshops since February and running a number of short workshops since May, we finally had our first intense project day – and it was great. Started collecting videos and images. Students also did some brilliant “interviews”… Tomorrow we will be roaming the streets and tower blocks of Marzahn looking for more sounds and pictures. The enthusiasm of participating students is outstanding.

Students from Wilhelm-von-Siemens-Gymnasium have been collecting sounds and images from inside Marzahn’s famous prefab concrete tower blocks, creating an archive of their own reality. Using the tower blocks as an urban screen in combination with a multi-channel speaker system, this participatory community project turns the buildings themselves inside out, culminating in an audiovisual performance lead by an MP3-player-based urban game. Reality Remixed serves as a platform for young people from Berlin-Marzahn to explore and challenge different perceptions of reality. Directed by Alexandre Decoupigny and Emily C. Völker.

This is what happens…

Currently Microsoft Word is the enemy. Paul Neave is probably Obi Wan Kenobi, which would make Steve Jobs the Emperor and Bill Gates Count Dooku.

Emily Völker is just a moving image artist and creative director.

Thanks for dropping by and have a nice day!
